The Greatest Search of all Time

We are constantly searching for the Lord. We look for Him. We call out to Him. Sometimes cry out. We try and find Him.

Where do you find Him?

I find Him in the beauty of nature; little things like dew in the mornings or the trees swaying in the wind. The sky. The stars. The hills and trails that lead me high to a birds-eye view.

That’s where I find Him.

If we didn’t try and find Him, what kind of relationship would that be? He wants us to seek Him out. He wants us to find him. So we look. We search.

We aren’t always looking in the right places. But when we are. Man.

It is beautiful.

And His creation screams here I am.

He isn't just in those places either. He is constantly with me. But He knows.

He. Knows.

He knows how my heart loves these things and wants me to take delight in the beauty of them. He allows me to take the long way around because behind the curves and hills I see the beauty. He also knows that if He didn't have me search for Him I would miss some of that beauty. Bob Goff writes in his book "Everybody Always,"

"I think God often allows us to go missing a time or two. He doesn't lose us. . .He lets us get lost for a while if it's what we really want. When we do, He doesn't pout or withhold His love the way I probably would if someone completely ignored me or walked away from me. Instead, He pursues us in love. He's not trying to find us; He always knows where we are. Rather, He goes with us as we find ourselves again."

How beautiful is it that a God so big and wonderful wants to pursue me. "For the son of man came to seek and save the lost." Luke 19.10

God, quite literally, sent His only Son to be with us because that's how much He wants to pursue us. That's a pretty big gesture of love if you ask me. You don't see too many people these days sending their only son to take on all of your wrongdoings and make you new through His death and resurrection. It Sounds like something Shakespeare would write.

How boring of a relationship would it be if we never pursued Him back? Not that I'm an expert or anything but I think it takes two to be in a relationship. Especially one that holds so much eternal value.

When we seek Him is important as well.

Seek Him in the glory and the shame. Especially the shame. Shame is a harborer of fear and fear is the enemy's weapon. He twists our hearts and minds to fear what we actually have so much power over. "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God?" 1 Corinthians 6.19

We harbor a gift of power through Jesus' name. "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions', and all over the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you." Luke 10.19

His name is a name so great that even in the depths of life and darkest of places it shines brighter than every star in every galaxy. Just to give a visual on that there are roughly two trillion galaxies and even more stars in each one of those galaxies than every single grain of sand on the Earth. That's the name the enemy trembles at.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Matthew 7.7

Knock.

Knock on all of the doors, windows, walls, whatever it may be. At the very least, knock. Then, walk through the doorways hand in hand with the one who wants to give you the world.

Seek.

He loves those who love Him. No really, "I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." Proverbs 8.17

Find.

It's not a game of hide and seek. It's seek and find. God doesn't say "Go try and find me and maybe I will be there and maybe I'll reveal myself if I feel like it." That's what humanity does. What we do. But not Him. He is there in the middle of it all, vulnerable and arms wide open. Consistently making himself available to us. Waiting for us to seek and find Him.

I never liked hide and seek because hiding is no fun; especially when you are alone. You sit, or stand, usually in a dark place, usually in an uncomfortable position and wait. Wait and hope that they won't find you. Because why? Being on your own is easier? Or maybe you think that hiding is good because no-one can see you and that means you are okay?

Who in the world came up with that logic!

Hiding is lonely and, let's be honest, you secretly hope and wish someone finds you because its damp and cramped in the hollowed-out tree you decided to squeeze into. Not to mention you are by yourself. Hiding is hard and lonely and we are not meant to be lonely. We are built for community and especially fellowship. His fellowship.

He does not play hide and seek. He plays seek and find.

But you have to come out of hiding and start doing some seeking.

In a way, it's comforting to know that He will always be there when we seek Him out. It shows His character. Ours is one of confusion and stubbornness but despite that, even because of that, He allows us to diligently find Him.

Diligent: having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties.

He shows care and is thoughtful in how He pursues us. Whether He wants to show us the rocky trail on the side of a mountain or a paved path in a singular direction, He knows how you need to hear it and when. Most importantly He knows when.

Let Him take the pressure of the question when. So many get stuck in the "What time?" and "When?" I personally hate the word when. When it happens it will happen and no sooner or later than the creator of the entire universe, and not to mention mankind, sets it into motion.

I know your curious and still want to ask the question "Okay, so when will the into motion part happen?" and there's that "when" again. Heres something my brief stint as a science major taught me.

Potential energy is one that is stored in an object due to position or arrangement.

Kinetic energy is energy of an object due to its movement; its motion.

We need to arrange ourselves in a position that allows us to be activated by the Lord's kinetic energy.

He moves, and if we are in the position to receive that movement, we move. And not only do we move but we move in step and in sync with Him and His will.

So instead of "when", how about "where".

Where can I be so that "when" does come, I am in a position to receive the movement. We store His word, His will, and His love so that the when doesn't even matter anymore because we know that He will be there with arms wide open moving you into motion.

Stop playing hide and seek and start playing seek and find.
